Visually impaired associate loves to teach

Assistant Customer Service Manager Susan Krum, #1489, Savannah, Georgia, is thankful that her path led her to Publix, where she enjoys teaching associates.

Susan is motivated to show that life’s challenges can be overcome with hard work. This mindset applies to her life overall as well as her Publix career.

Born with congenital cataracts, Susan had them removed when she was 2 months old, along with her lenses. “I wore very thick glasses until I was 15, when I received a lens implant,” she said.

She met her husband at Publix, and they also have a 4-year-old daughter who is visually impaired. Setting an example for her daughter to persevere through adversity motivates Susan.

She worked her way up at Publix from her 1st role as a part-time cashier to her current role as an assistant customer service manager, where she enjoys assisting customers and training associates. Susan especially enjoys training, since she dreamed of being a teacher as a young girl.

Her next goal is to become a customer service manager and continue to be a valued mentor to associates.

“I pride myself in my ability to show people how to do things,” said Susan. “I love promoting the Publix culture.”
