Make a New Year’s resolution to invest in yourself

Adult Education

It’s almost a new year, and what better time to further your education. Publix’s adult education and tuition reimbursement programs offer associates a chance to increase their knowledge and skills.

Enroll in adult education classes
Many communities offer classes, such as Adult Basic Education, General Education Development (GED) preparation, English as a Second Language, one-on-one tutoring and conversational Spanish and French. In an effort to help associates learn and find opportunities available in nearby communities, the training delivery department has compiled a list of organizations that offer these types of adult education courses across our operating areas and sends to interested associates. Many of these programs are offered at no cost to participants.

“Through this program, associates can learn about opportunities to enhance their skills. It is one of many ways Publix helps support associates in achieving their career goals,” said Senior Training Specialist June Arnold.

Request reimbursement for school
After obtaining a GED diploma, current associates may request reimbursement for an exam fee plus the registration fee paid to attend one GED exam preparation class or one GED exam preparation workbook.

Associates seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree, participating in an occupational or technical program or taking individual college courses may be eligible for Publix’s tuition reimbursement program.

First, associates must submit an application for acceptance into the program. Associates who are accepted are reimbursed for tuition costs and other related fees. It can take up to four weeks to process your application, so it’s important to apply early. Classes completed before acceptance into the program are not eligible for reimbursement.

“In the past 10 years, we have seen the cost of higher education rise dramatically,” said Compensation Specialist Terri Smith. “Publix’s tuition reimbursement program provides some relief by reimbursing associates for some of their tuition costs.”
