Say you can when you think you can’t

Study group

Going back to school to brush up on math or starting a class to learn English may be intimidating, but increasing your knowledge will only help you grow personally and professionally. Plus, Publix can help you get started.

Many communities offer classes, such as Adult Basic Education, General Education Development (GED) preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), one-on-one tutoring, and conversational Spanish and French. To help you further your education and develop new skills, our training delivery department maintains a list of organizations across our operating areas that offer adult education classes and can help you find classes close to where you live.

If you’re interested in finding opportunities available in your area, simply complete the Adult Education Request form at www.publix.org > Career and Self Development > Adult Education Request > or on PASSport > Personal >  Career and Self Development. Once your request is processed, you will receive a packet with the names, locations and phone numbers of the organizations offering the types of courses you’ve selected. After you sign up and take the classes you’re interested in, you’ll be on your way to a more educated you.
Be.

Zaid SaeedFive years ago, Produce Clerk Zaid Saeed, #1341, Palm Harbor, Florida, moved to the United States from Iraq. He joined Publix in 2012 and quickly realized he wanted to make a career here. To enter management, Zaid knew it would require a lot of hard work and the ability to communicate well with customers.

“I was excited to learn I could sign up for English as a Second Language (ESL) courses,” said Zaid. “My English and ability to communicate with customers has improved because of these classes, and I believe I’m better prepared for a produce manager position. I’m so happy my manager told me about the adult education program.”

Not only did he receive the benefit of improving his English, but Zaid was also reimbursed for ESL courses through the tuition reimbursement program. For more information about the tuition reimbursement program and approved areas of study, visit www.publix.org > Career and Self Development > Tuition Reimbursement.
