Meat Manager Jimmy Jowers, #1444, Deland, Fla., is a firm believer in training. He trained five days a week for two years on the U.S. Army’s boxing team in the 70s. He also believes in seizing opportunities.

Jimmy’s opportunity with Publix came 17 years ago after he spent years working at a competitor and waiting for the chance to come to Publix.

“I really enjoyed my job in the meat department, but I knew I wanted to work at Publix. I had a friend who worked here, and he told me there was an opening, so I jumped at it,” Jimmy said.

At Publix, he trains his associates to also look for opportunities. And, during the holidays, they come knocking often.

“Customers are looking for products that will make them the heroes of their holiday dinners,” said Jimmy. “My team knows what questions to ask to help their customers find the right cut and the right amount for their gathering. They also know the holidays are a great time to suggest new products and give preparation tips.”

Jimmy’s store has been No. 1 in the rib roast category in the Jacksonville Division for the last two years. He attributes that to his team’s drive and competitive nature.

“My associates share my love of competition, so they’re constantly looking for opportunities to serve their customers better than they did the day before,” said Jimmy. “When my associates feel like they’re doing a good job and accomplishing their goals, they’ll want to keep getting better. When I see that happening, I know I’m doing my job.”

Meat Manager Jimmy Jowers looks forward to sharing his knowledge with customers this holiday season. Learn how to make your customers the heroes of their holiday meals.
