From internship to career, associate paves his own path

Growing up, Human Resources Investigator Jacob Jackson always wanted to work for Publix. He never guessed he would get his chance to join the Publix family as an intern and later as a full-time associate.

In 2011, Jacob was studying communications and leadership studies in college. He had an opportunity to interview for an internship position in Publix’s human resources investigations department and was hired as a legal intern.

“I didn’t know exactly what to expect in the beginning, but it didn’t take long for me to realize this experience was going to help me be successful in my career,” said Jacob. “I conducted investigations alongside other investigators and learned leadership and communication skills.”

Jacob enjoyed his internship so much, he returned the following summer. In between his summer internships, he worked as a part-time deli clerk at #311, Tampa, Florida.

Because of his success as an intern, in December 2012, he was hired full-time as a
human resources investigator. In his current role, Jacob supports one of the core principles of Publix’s mission statement — dedicated to the dignity, value and employment security of our associates — by investigating associates’ concerns submitted through one of our formal complaint processes. This gives Publix the opportunity to evaluate each situation, determine what occurred and do the right thing.

“Going from a Publix shopper to intern in the corporate office to deli associate and now to human resources investigator, I’m proud to say I’ve found my piece in the Publix puzzle,” Jacob said.

Publix had him hooked at the start of his internship. Human Resources Investigator Jacob Jackson feels fortunate his internship opened the door to his Publix career.
