Since 1995, Publix has honored more than 100 associates with the Mr. George Community Service Award. These associates continue Mr. George’s legacy of giving back and bring our mission statement to life by being involved as responsible citizens in our communities.
At last month’s stockholders meeting, six associates — one associate from each retail division and one support associate — were honored with the 2017 Mr. George Community Service Award. This award recognizes associates who dedicate their time to serving others, not just where they work, but in the places where they live. Each associate receives $5,000 to donate to a charity or charities of their choice, three days off with pay, a personalized award and a dinner with Publix executives.
Vice Chairman Barney Barnett presented the 2017 Mr. George Community Service Award to the following associates.
- Atlanta Division: Store Manager Christi Nelson, #1185, Madison, Alabama
- Charlotte Division: Store Manager Don Bridwell, #1479, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
- Jacksonville Division: Store Manager Max Murray, #675, Oviedo, Florida
- Lakeland Division: Store Manager John Becker, #420, New Port Richey, Florida
- Miami Division: Store Manager Richard Reynolds, #703, Plantation, Florida
- Support: Human Resources Legal Projects Manager Ansley Martin Frese
These recipients have set an example by always giving of their time, money and/or talent to their communities. While they each volunteer with different causes, they all have something in common: they live with one purpose — to be servant leaders. This level of commitment has left a lasting impression on their associates and their communities.
“The contributions these associates have made are grounded in the values of service,” said Barney. “We thank them for their commitment to servant leadership.”
