MIC program creates career opportunity for promising associate

“Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it.”

Deli Manager Tiffany Reiser, #767, Port Richey, Florida, says this quote by former football player and coach Lou Holtz keeps her focused on achieving her goals. And, right now, one of those goals is advancing her career through her new role as a manager-in-charge (MIC).

Tiffany joined Publix in early 2006 as a part-time deli clerk. Publix’s philosophies, vision and values inspired her to pursue a career in management. She’s been in her current role since 2011.

“From day one, I knew she was a special leader. She enjoys teaching others and wants them to fully understand their job tasks, which is what Publix needs from our managers,” said Store Manager Gary Blackman.

Tiffany credits the MIC program for helping her view management and store operations from another perspective. Not only is she responsible for operating the deli department, she ensures customers receive a high level of service throughout the whole store.

“I like supporting Publix’s strategy of operating as a highly effective, agile team through the MIC program,” she said. “And, I like the fact that Publix is passionately focused on customer service, and we invest time in the success of our associates.”

Providing premier customer service is a priority for Tiffany. She recalled one customer who ordered deli sandwich platters for her father’s funeral and wasn’t sure how she was going to pick them up. Tiffany delivered the platters to the church herself.

“A week later, she came into the store with a card for the deli team, thanking us for the compassion and sympathy during her difficult time and noting that she only shops at Publix because the associates and managers truly care about the customers,” Tiffany said. “It made me proud to work for a company that is respected by the community.”

Gary said this combination of commitment and compassion, along with how well she’s taken on the MIC responsibilities, has put Tiffany on the path to becoming a store manager.

“She presents herself as a true professional who always wants to do a great job!”
