Ethics help us do the right thing

We all have a responsibility to our customers, co-workers, stockholders, suppliers and our communities to uphold Publix’s core values. And by carefully deciding that the right thing to do is in every situation, it’s easy to make the best choice. Making ethical decisions at work benefits our company, and — as stockholders — it also benefits us.

Do your part

You represent Publix with each decision you make and every interaction you have at work. Be mindful of the representation you’re portraying by

  • answering your customers, co-workers and managers honestly
  • providing premier customer service and doing your best to meet the
    needs of every customer
  • looking out for the safety of everyone in your work area
  • using Publix’s resources only to conduct company business and
  • building and maintaining strong professional relationships with our
suppliers and always complying with Publix’s standards and the laws that
    govern supplier relationships.

It’s the right thing to do

You should review Publix’s Summary of the Code of Ethics pamphlet, which includes many guidelines for doing the right thing. Good choices require thoughtful evaluation and sound judgment. When trying to determine whether an issue is in violation of Publix’s policies, law or the Code of Ethics, try using the following test.

  • Is the action legal?
  • Does it comply with our values?
  • If you do it, will you feel bad?
  • How will it look in the media, online or in the newspaper?

If you know it’s wrong, don’t do it. If you’re not sure, ask. Keep asking until you get an answer. If you know of an ethics policy violation, it’s your responsibility as an associate and stockholder to report it.

Talk to your manager or call the Publix Ethics Line toll-free at 1-866-747-3773 to report unethical behavior. Calls to the Ethics Line are confidential, and you don’t have to identify yourself. So do the right thing — for Publix and for yourself.
