Our reputation for premier service travels near and far

Store Manager Mark Grant and Grocery Manager Kenny Heron

It’s not uncommon for our associates to go above and beyond to take care of a customer. But it’s not every day we’re given the opportunity to help comfort a mother nearly 1,000 miles away.

Store #782, Tallahassee, Florida, received a call from a concerned mother in Chicago who needed our help. She explained that her son, who was attending college in town, was sick and in need of groceries but wasn’t in any condition to drive. She was hoping Publix could save the day.

“After hearing her story, I knew we had to help. I understood how she felt; I have children of my own,” said Store Manager Mark Grant.

She compiled the shopping list and sent it to Grocery Manager Kenny Heron. Kenny shopped the store for everything on the list and called her back with the total bill. She paid over the phone, and Kenny made arrangements to deliver the groceries to her son’s home. She was so grateful for the service Publix was providing her son and offered to pay a delivery fee, but Kenny kindly advised it wasn’t necessary.

“I know we have many compassionate managers at Publix who would’ve done the same thing, but I’m glad we had the opportunity to make a difference and help put her mind at ease. Kenny did the leg work, and I’m proud of the service he provided,” Mark said.

The mother shared her gratitude on social media: “Both these gentlemen went over and above the call of duty, and I cannot ever express to them how grateful I am. I have no doubt these two are excellent managers. I want the leaders of Publix to know these two men went out of their way to help my son — who desperately needed it — without any thought of getting any recognition. They simply wanted to do the right thing. They made Publix look awesome today.”

Thank you, Mark and Kenny, for doing the right thing and helping spread the Publix culture!
