We know our associates are full of bright ideas. That’s why we’re excited about the rollout of Idea Spot, our new platform where you can submit your suggestions for ways to improve Publix! In fact, some ideas have already been implemented.

Let’s face it: Nothing tastes as good as one of our signature Pub Subs — except maybe cutting down the time it takes to make it. Assistant Deli Manager Juan De La Cruz, #1101, Orlando, Florida, used Idea Spot to suggest a solution for easier sub kit identification.

“When I was an associate at #427 [Orlando], I noticed other deli associates and I would spend extra time looking for the Italian sub kits, because they looked identical to the sub kits for tavern ham,” Juan said. “I thought if we put the capicola meat, which is bright red, on the outside of the kit, they would be easier to differentiate.”

Juan submitted his suggestion by logging in to PASSport and searching for Idea Spot. The platform is designed to be interactive. Associates can also visit Idea Spot to see, comment and vote on others’ ideas, and earn rewards and badges.

Soon, Juan was told his idea was being considered. Then, his change was implemented at our Fresh Kitchen facility, which makes the sub kits. Originally, the capicola could not be packaged on the outside of the kit because of its size. After sourcing capicola to a larger size, the production process was successfully altered. Juan’s idea was implemented in December. Juan was awarded a Publix gift card for his improvement idea.

“I would encourage other associates to have the courage to submit their ideas,” he said. “But to also think about the process and what it would take for Publix to implement the idea. A lot of times we might have an idea, but don’t think about what it would require.”
