Be active to keep your heart and mind strong

Let’s get moving

Did you know incorporating physical activity into your everyday life is one of the most important things you can do for your health? Consistent physical activity can help

  • improve brain health
  • manage weight
  • reduce the risk of disease and
  • strengthen bones and muscles.

Small changes you can try

If going to the gym 6 days a week seems daunting, you can start with small changes. Here’s a list of small steps that can make a big impact on your overall health:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Park your car at the far end of the parking lot when grocery shopping or running errands.
  • Go for a quick walk during your work breaks.
  • Try a virtual at-home exercise class.
  • Stand or walk when watching TV or using the computer.
  • If you need a friendly reminder to move your body, set an alarm to go off every few hours.

Benefits of physical activity

Research shows physical activity also has significant positive effects on mental health and social well-being, impacting every facet of your life. There are both immediate and long-term benefits for adults. Benefits include

  • improved sleep quality
  • reduced feelings of anxiety
  • lower blood pressure
  • better heart health
  • reduced risk of some common cancers and
  • improved balance and coordination.

More than exercise

Taking care of your physical health is so much more than exercise. Associates enrolled in Publix’s BCBS PPO Plan can use Amwell telehealth for a host of needs. Amwell telehealth (available using any internet-connected device) is a great option when you need to see a doctor, mental health therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist, and you

  • want to avoid visiting your doctor’s office
  • don’t have time to stop by an urgent care center or emergency room
  • can’t drive or
  • can’t get a convenient in-person appointment.

And don’t forget to schedule preventative screenings and annual physicals. Visit PASSport to learn more about the health benefits available to you.
