Caring from the heart

Publix pharmacies always seem to be busy, so what does it take to be part of the team? We spoke with Pharmacy Manager Coral Silva Medina, #54, Miami, about her career.

“I think the biggest aspect of my job is that you are constantly listening,” said Coral. “As a pharmacist, half of your job is creating a space for open conversation.”

Becoming a pharmacy manager requires lots of experience and training. Coral attended pharmacy school and worked in a hospital pharmacy after graduation. When she joined Publix, she spent time as a floating pharmacist, meaning she would travel from location to location depending on where she was needed.

When Coral was promoted to assistant pharmacy manager, she learned how to manage a pharmacy, while still reporting to the manager.

“As an assistant pharmacy manager, you still have the tasks of filling prescriptions, talking to doctors and giving vaccines, but with the added responsibility of managing your team,” said Coral.

Focusing on the customers’ needs is what Publix Pharmacy is all about. Many customers come in with questions or concerns, and it is up to our pharmacy teams to give them accurate information and help them have the best wellness plan.

“We always want to be available for the customer when they have questions or need a step-by-step plan with small, attainable goals,” said Coral. “Creating that connection and going the extra mile are what makes us the best in the business.”
