Have a holly, jolly healthy holiday season

Between busy schedules and festive chaos, remember your health goals while you’re enjoying this joyous time.

From maintaining your typical eating habits to making time for physical activity, you can achieve a healthy holiday season with a bit of balance. Here are some tips to prioritize your wellness:

  • Eat balanced meals throughout the day. Skipping meals can negatively impact your metabolism and appetite control.
  • Cook more meals at home and fill half of each meal’s plate with seasonal fruits and vegetables. Also, stock up on ingredients like lean meats, fish, seafood, eggs, low-fat dairy and whole-wheat pasta.
  • Stay active by engaging in fun physical activities, such as working out at the gym or playing exercise-based video games.
  • Get a good night’s rest. Getting enough sleep can help build and restore energy levels and reduce stress.
  • Schedule a physical and/or preventive care with your health care team so you can start the new year off on the right foot.

Healthier shopping

The Publix wellness icons on our shelf tags can help you make informed food choices while you shop throughout the holidays and beyond:

  • Better choice. Products with more nutrients you need, like fiber, and less of what you don’t need, like saturated fat, added sodium or added sugar. Our Publix registered dietitian nutritionists compare products to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Dietary Guidelines to determine which products get this tag.
  • Gluten free. Products certified as gluten free by the manufacturer, following U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations.
  • Vegan. Products made without meat, eggs, honey, dairy or animal by-products.
  • USDA organic. Products that contain 95% or more certified organic ingredients.
  • 70% organic. Products that contain 70% or more certified organic ingredients.
  • Made without. Products made without specific preservatives, flavors or colors but may still contain colors from natural sources.
