Learn about options for making the move from retail to support

Store associates looking to make the move to a support role have many career options. Read about the 2 most popular Publix support positions store associates transfer into.

Part-time customer care agent
How would you like to be a customer’s 1st point of contact at corporate? In this role, you’ll field customers’ phone calls, emails and letters. You’ll also help them with anything they need — such as product and store questions, company policies and finding the right personnel.

“Our department plays a pivotal part in impacting and directly affecting our overall business objectives and mission,” said Manager of Customer Care Caitlin Sealey.

As a store associate, you already know our No. 1 priority is to always provide premier service to our customers. As a customer care agent, you continue that focus with the same goal in mind, but from a support position.

“You are able to gain foundational knowledge of the company and other business areas and spread your wings from a corporate perspective, allowing you to explore other departments,” Caitlin said.

Many associates who start off as a part-time customer care agent can transition to opportunities within reporting and analytics, social media, systems and communications roles, according to Caitlin.

“Customer care gives you a really strong foundation, and I think it can be used in most areas professionally,” Caitlin said.

Part-time associate customer technical support analyst
As an associate customer technical support analyst, your customers are associates working at a store or corporate location.

Without your help they wouldn’t be able to meet Publix’s high standard of service. So, you’re still helping take care of the customer in more ways than one.

“The goal is to take care of the associates who then take care of the Publix customers,” said IT Service Manager Julie Hayes. “We help people; we enable associates to do their jobs to take care of our customers.”

In this role, your experience as a store associate greatly helps your transition.

“You take everything you learned in the store and leverage that to support your former fellow store associates,” Julie said.

It’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in IT or just looking to support Publix in a new role and new environment.

“If you enjoy customer service and get satisfaction and joy from troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, then you will thrive in this role,” Julie said.
