When we prepare to move into a new state like Kentucky, we ensure stores open with a mix of experienced associates who can introduce and spread our Publix culture as well as locals who understand the community and market area.
“Most people, especially if they have vacationed in Florida, are aware of our brand,” said Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition Marcy Hamrick. “We have a lot of people who apply because of their interactions as customers. Our consumer brand helps our employer brand.”
Still, it can be challenging to enter a new state. With the 1st Kentucky store targeted to open late this year, a recruiting team visited the area in April to begin establishing relationships. Since Publix is the No. 1 corporate donor to United Way, recruiters started building relationships with United Way partners, as well as schools and other community organizations.
Finding job applicants takes time and persistence. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online, and current associates may express interest in transferring to Kentucky through the Critical Needs area on PASSport. There they will find transfer forms and choose the one applicable to their job background (retail management, retail nonmanagement or pharmacy).
“We want to open new stores with a strong culture, so we bring as many skilled Publix associates as we can,” Marcy said. “It’s very rewarding to share Publix job opportunities with job seekers because I know what a wonderful place it is to work. We feel it in our heart, and we want to share that experience with others.”
Locals who are interested in joining the Publix team can find a list of openings and job descriptions to apply to at publix.jobs.
