These Idea Spot challenge winners have it in the bag

As part of a recent Idea Spot challenge, we asked you to send in your designs for a reusable bag. We received many great submissions that showcase the talents of our Publix family — everything from computer artwork and watercolor to oils and pencil drawings.

We couldn’t be prouder of the submissions we received! Meet our challenge winners below and be on the lookout for our next challenge. In the meantime, submit your improvement idea when you visit Idea Spot.

Winners

People’s Choice — Plato Reusable Bag

“Done digitally using my iPad Pro, I wanted to create a cute representation of Plato shopping for the healthy snack options Publix offers. Publix produce is the best, and I wanted to show that in a simple, yet cutesy way.” — Meat Cutter Tiffany Meldau, #1659, Lakeland, Florida

What You Love About Publix — Peace, Love and Publix Subs

“When I think about Publix, the first thing that comes to mind is a signature Pub Sub. Food is one of many things that can bring people from all walks of life together. The things that certainly bring everyone together are peace, love and of course, a good old-fashioned Pub Sub.” — Deli Clerk Brittney Harp, #1105, Jacksonville, Florida

Sustainability — Go Green

“I illustrated this pattern to represent recycling, nature and the fresh fruits and veggies we provide at Publix — and I made sure to use Publix green. Everything was hand-drawn by me on Procreate, including the text.” — Cashier Emily Reid, #1584, Pooler, Georgia

Kids — Live Green, Love Publix and Reusable Bags Help Keep the Sea Plastic-Free

“These designs were created by my 15-year-old daughter, Annalise. She says, ‘The designs display how we, as Publix shoppers, can practice sustainability every day.’” — Studio Designer Derek Bloomberg, Lakeland, Florida

Highly Commended

Congratulations are also offered to the following associates who received Highly Commended honors for their entries!

People’s Choice — Ownership

“My favorite part about Publix is our employee ownership. I love how my individual contribution is meaningful, while also part of a bigger community of teamwork.” — Customer Service Staff Hannah Glochick, #1551, Raleigh, North Carolina

People’s Choice — Architectural Uniqueness

“These paintings focus on the architectural uniqueness of different Publix stores. While the inside of each Publix is very similar, what makes each store different is the building it inhabits and the sense of familiarity to its customers. Everyone has that 1 store that is ‘their Publix.’ I’m sure we have all heard someone say, ‘This is my Publix,’ or ‘That is my Publix.’ Publix gives off a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, and I think some even consider Publix to be like a home. My paintings depict different Publix stores located in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida, portrayed as a homey location. With the combination of domestic textile patterns and the familiar storefront of Publix, these paintings create a beautiful, bright and uplifting design. I want all customers to feel like we are their second family and feel welcome inside our establishment.” — Customer Service Staff Sierra Patch, #852, Tallahassee, Florida

People’s Choice — We Love Pub Subs

“I believe something many people love about Publix is our subs! I also wanted to incorporate Plato.” — Cake Decorator Viviana Lopez, #1567, Winter Garden, Florida

Kids — Recycling Is What We Do

“At Publix there are many ways to recycle, and fun, reusable bags are just one!” — Chloe Witmer, daughter of Supervisor of Facilities Services Contact Center Miranda Witmer, Lakeland, Florida

Kids — Free Publix Cookie

“Our daughter Siena drew this on her phone. She says this is what she loves about Publix. It makes her happy!” — Associate Customer Tech Support Analyst Raquel Lamanna, Lakeland, Florida

General — Sub Party

Systems Analyst/Programmer Jacqueline “Jackie” Potts, Lakeland, Florida

Sustainability — Keep Our Seas Plastic-Free

“Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our ocean on top of the estimated 150 million metric tons currently in the marine environment. Plastic has been found in a lot of marine animals who mistake plastic for food. Buying reusable bags is one of the few ways we can help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans. I love the ocean and all of its marine life. I created this concept with Amaziograph and Procreate.” — Cake Decorator Sandra Mota, #1122, Orlando, Florida

Sustainability — Stand Up for What We Stand On

Cake Decorator Rachel Sawyer, #1691, Northport, Alabama

Sustainability — Every Day Is Earth Day

Customer Service Staff Ines Medina, #766, Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Sustainability and People’s Choice — Say No To Plastic

“I wanted to focus on some of my favorite sea life and create a reminder of what is being helped when you choose to reduce and reuse. I feel Publix’s contribution to sustainability is a fantastic way to spread awareness and encourage people to make swaps in their lives that are more environmentally friendly in the long run. I had a blast making this design, and I’ve really enjoyed seeing what others came up with as well!” — Produce Clerk Allison Joseph, #1557, Punta Gorda, Florida
