Tips and tricks for account protection

It may seem easier to use the same, simple password for all your accounts, but here’s why that could end up being a bad idea in the long run.

Many platforms have started using multifactor authentication as extra protection for sensitive company information. Publix is no different. Even with this added layer of protection, it is still important to protect your work and personal accounts. Here are some tips to remember.

The “do’s”

  • Enable multifactor authentication, if available.
  • Use a different password for each account even if multifactor authentication is enabled.
  • Use phrases that only you would know to make them easier for you to remember.
  • Use a secure, trusted password manager to generate and securely store your passwords, not in your contacts or on a notepad.
  • Create a strong password using at least 8 characters, both upper- and lowercase letters, a mixture of numbers and letters, and at least one special character.

The “don’ts”

  • Never share your passwords with others or store them in other people’s devices.
  • Don’t make passwords easy to guess. (ex. 12345, abcde)
  • Don’t reuse the same password you have used for any online site or email account.
  • Avoid using simple words.
  • Never allow anyone access to your Publix account.
  • Never provide your Publix account and password to an outside app to allow access to your work schedule, pay statements, tax documents, benefits information or other information on PASSport.

We know this may seem like a lot of guidelines and tips, but online safety can protect you and Publix. Help keep your information safe by following these guidelines and setting up multifactor authentication when possible.
