Why do you get your flu shot?

These associates share what motivates them to be vaccinated every year.

I survived a hospital stay.
I finally broke my own rule of never getting the flu shot after my episode in the hospital last year. My New Year’s Eve celebratory cocktail consisted of IV fluids and medications. Then, my 86-year-old mother caught it from me, and after I recovered, I spent a month visiting her in the hospital. After last year’s experience, I can tell you getting the flu shot is much better than a hospital stay and missed hours at work.

I caught the flu from customers.
I didn’t get a flu shot last year, and so many customers came in sneezing and coughing with runny noses. I tried to stay safe by washing my hands often, but I was out of work for two weeks with the flu. It was horrible. This year, I’ll get a flu shot.

I want to protect my loved ones.
I get my flu shot because I had the flu when my daughter was born. From that day forward, I make sure my family and I get the flu shot to protect her from getting the flu.

I want to protect everyone.
I care about my family and extended family, which includes my fellow associates and my customers. They’re all counting on me. And after having the flu in the past, I do it for me too. There’s nothing like a flu shot to help me stay at the top of my game.

I want to set an example.
I get mine because I know how quickly the flu can spread! Every year, flu-related illness contributes to additional doctor visits, complications like pneumonia and even death. It’s no joke. By getting vaccinated every year, I hope to set the example for others to take this proactive step to prevent the spread of the flu among our associates, family members and customers!

Why not?
When the flu sends its yearly alarm,
Is it worth getting a shot in the arm?
You’ve got nothing to lose,
’Cept a sting and a bruise,
And that ten bucks will do you no harm!
