You heard it right — a new study suggests diet may be important in the prevention of hearing loss. According to researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, eating at least two servings of fish with omega-3s each week could help delay or even prevent hearing loss in women.

The study followed more than 65,000 women from 1991 – 2009 and found more than 11,600 of them developed hearing loss. But those women who ate two or more servings of fish weekly had a 20 percent lower risk for hearing loss than those who rarely ate fish. The study suggests consuming any type of fish — tuna, dark fish, light fish or shellfish — is associated with a lower risk of hearing loss.

The study was published online Sept. 10 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
