Tarisha Gray began her career with Publix as a quality technician in the dairy plant where she honed her precision in quality control. She became a technician for research and development in 2012 and then was promoted to her current role as manager of research and product development in 2015.

Part of Tarisha’s duties are developing and improving formulas for our new and existing dairy products, teas, lemonades and carbonated beverages. Beyond formula development across our dairy plants in Lakeland and Deerfield Beach, Florida, and Atlanta, Tarisha plays a key role in managing production quality by leading risk assessment, processing feasibility and product scalability.

Tarisha enjoys the cross-functional aspect of her job, which involves communicating with her business areas about product innovation ideas and regulatory readiness. When she develops new formulas for our products, she considers potential profits and cost efficiencies before presenting them as options for production.

“I see food as more than just nourishment,” said Tarisha. “I believe it should be thoughtful, meaningful and made with integrity. I enjoy what I do because I have the opportunity to combine science, strategy and sensory experience to make our products come to life.

“With the high volume of private-label products produced in our dairy plants, I’ve had the opportunity to support the rollout of new systems and introduce new products to market. I also support other teams in evaluating trade-offs involved in different product initiatives,” said Tarisha. “With this collaboration, we’re able to have continual dialogue around new products.”

Tarisha believes that positioning yourself as a cross-functional thinker will help you better use strategy while reducing risk, making you a more effective product developer.

“Food is about connection and culture, and it can help create special memories,” said Tarisha. “I want to continue to be a part of those connections for our customers.”
