Every year, professional truck drivers head to Indianapolis, Indiana, to compete in the American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driving Championship. The annual competition celebrates the trucking industry’s best professional drivers.
About the championship competition
The national championship competitors won their State Truck Driving Associations’ Truck Driving Championship. Drivers come from a wide range of companies and compete in 8 vehicle classes, such as a tank truck, 5-axle and step van. During the competition, each driver demonstrates their driving and inspection skills, and knowledge and professionalism through a written exam, pre-trip inspection test and a skills test.
Publix winner at 2022 championship
At this year’s championship, Publix Truck Driver David Guinn took home 1st place in the 5-axle division! This was David’s 2nd time competing at Nationals; the 1st was in 2014 when he placed 6th in the 5-axle division and was named Rookie of the Year.
Before his win in Indianapolis this year, David competed in the 2022 Florida State Truck Driving Championship and was named the state’s overall Grand Champion — the state competition’s highest honor, awarded to the top-performing driver in all classes.
