Facilities refrigeration hardware technician has one cool job

Pat Bromfield always knew he wanted a career with Publix. In the beginning, he was not sure what it might look like.

“I wanted to learn a trade and grow within the company,” Pat said. He joined Publix in 2014 as an environmental cleaner at the Miami dairy plant.

When Pat became a facilities refrigeration hardware technician in the Miami Division in 2021, he realized this was the start of a long-term career with Publix.

“Becoming a technician gave me the map that showed me the vast opportunities in this field,” said Pat. “I was surprised Publix had an in-house refrigeration department that supports retail.”

A facilities refrigeration hardware technician makes sure the cooling mechanisms of the cold cases and walk-in freezers are working correctly.

Sometimes stores need urgent repairs. Technicians receive a daily log of stores with immediate service requests. They plan their day based on the severity of the issues. The most frequent service requests include repairing gaskets and replacing doors in refrigerated cases.

Pat was promoted to his current position as a facilities refrigeration hardware technician supervisor in 2023. He finds it rewarding to do his job and make a difference for customers and associates.
