Idea Spot has become a stellar platform for promoting and implementing innovation since its launch in August 2020.
When Idea Spot rolled out, the goal was to create a continuous improvement forum accessible to everyone. Two years later, the numbers don’t lie.
So far, Idea Spot has received over 8,100 ideas, and that number is still growing. More than 44,000 associates have used the platform, and over 1,000 proposed ideas are currently being reviewed.
There have been 22 ideas implemented, allowing Publix to do business smarter and improve as a company. Let’s dive into some of them:
- Deli Manager Sable Baker, #873, Trinity, Florida, submitted an idea to reduce the number of sub sandwich condiment bottle nozzles sent per package to stores from 2 to 1. The elimination of the extra condiment nozzles saved 17 cents to 48 cents per case, resulting in savings of about $97,000, annually! This change also reduced the amount of plastic used in our stores and sent to landfills, helping uphold our commitment to be intolerant of waste and good community citizens.
- Store Manager Nathan Johnson, #1684, St. Johns, Florida, suggested eliminating the POP kits and banners sent to several standalone pharmacies in hospitals and clinics. They discard the kits and banners because the stand-alone pharmacies can’t use them. This change resulted in a slight reduction in POP cost and supported our commitment to be intolerant of waste.
- Pharmacy Central Fill Technician Benedict Nicholson, Orlando, Florida, recommended replacing the cans of compressed air used to clean the robotic fill arms. The purchasing teams researched this further and bought 30 rechargeable compressed air hand-held guns, saving Publix $32,000 this year.
