Joey began his Publix career in 1995 as a front service clerk at #199, St. Augustine, Florida. He held several positions in the grocery department before becoming an assistant store manager, store manager and then district manager. He was promoted to his current role in 2020.
What’s the best part of your job?
My favorite part about my job has always been working with, training and developing our associates.
If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you choose?
A monkey. I like monkeys! Growing up, whenever we visited a zoo or a place with animals, I wanted to watch the monkeys all day.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m the oldest of 5 children in my family, 3 of whom are triplets who are 11 years younger than me. Two of the triplets are Publix department managers: Steven is a grocery manager in South Carolina, and David is a deli manager in Florida.
What’s your proudest moment?
I had the privilege of being the district manager selected to support our new market entry into Virginia.

What advice would you give to associates hoping to advance their Publix career?
Treat every day like it’s your interview. If you go into work with this mindset, you will always work to deliver your best. A positive attitude will help lift you and those you work with. With all the growth we have in front of us, we need great associates who can take on more responsibility.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My wife, Michelle, and I love to travel to new places for vacations when we can. In my spare time, I really enjoy spending time in the kitchen. I have always loved to cook and try new and interesting foods. Whether it’s after a long day at work or during my days off, cooking great food to enjoy with friends and family is relaxing for me.

An archaeologist
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to learn to sail so I can go island hopping in the Caribbean.

I enjoy listening to the Crime Junkie podcast.
What do you get on your Pub Sub?
My favorite is a Boar’s Head Ultimate sub with mayonnaise, spicy mustard, lettuce, pickles, black olives and jalapenos. Then, I put a lot of hot sauce on it!
What’s your guilty pleasure food?
French fries
What is your favorite Publix product?
GreenWise Salted Caramel Ice Cream (but I don’t eat it very often!)
