Publix meat is a cut above the rest

Our friendly meat cutters are devoted to MEATing customers’ needs and quality standards. They are responsible for cutting all varieties of meat and ensuring the delivery of an exceptional product to our customers. We met with Meat Cutter Taeler Dupre, #356, Lakeland, Florida, to learn about his role.

“I started working at Publix as a meat clerk 4 years ago while attending the University of Florida,” said Taeler. “I raised cattle growing up and was a member of the Future Farmers of America, so the meat department was the most interesting to me.”

Our meat cutters assist customers looking for a specific cut of meat and offer recommendations on how best to cook it. They also wrap, weigh and label cuts of meat. As a meat cutter, you can expect to work primarily in temperatures ranging from 40 to 50 F, while safely operating tools to prepare and display cuts of meat.

“I get to do something different every day,” said Taeler. “It’s a hands-on type of job where you are preparing different cuts every week, depending on what’s featured in the weekly ad.”

With a master’s degree in agribusiness, Taeler plans to continue his career path at Publix. “The possibilities here are endless,” said Taeler. “There are a lot of different pathways and job options available.”
