Our talented decorators are creative with a keen eye for detail. They decorate beautiful cakes, pies, pastries and other sweet products according to Publix standards and customer preferences. Thanks in large part to our decorators’ dedication and artistry, many Publix Bakery delicacies have become customer favorites.
That is the case for Decorator Susan McCarthy, #1427, Tallahassee, Florida. She has worked at Publix for the last 28 years. During that time, she has produced many unique creations based on customers’ requests.
“It’s the customers who come back year after year for my twist on cake designs that make my day,” said Susan. “One of the many reasons I love my job!”
“Our decorators are the masters of creating memories,” said Bakery Category Manager Milton Punausuia. “Their pieces are sought after to mark special occasions in people’s lives. That’s what makes this role an important part in providing premier customer service at Publix.”
Decorators are devoted to meeting customers’ needs and quality standards. Since associate safety, food safety and product quality are top priorities at Publix, attention to detail and following reference and procedures guides are particularly important.
“Having the structure and proper guidelines makes it possible for those interested to be trained for a very rewarding job as a decorator,” Susan said. “Anything is possible as long as you have the desire.”
To become a decorator, candidates must be at least 18 years of age with experience as a Publix decorator apprentice or equivalent experience outside of Publix.
Retail associates who wish to become decorators should visit the Career & Self Development page on PASSport, review the Minimum Qualifications for a Position Leading to Management (PLM) and register their interest.
