Assistant Bakery Manager Fito Menendez, #222, Miami, has made great strides working in the bakery.
“It makes me feel at home,” Fito said about his work at Publix. He loves it all — from baking bread and decorating cakes to chatting with his customers.
Fito began his career in 2020 as a decorator at #222, working his way up through the bakery and into his current position.
“There are some days I prefer decorating and some days, baking bread,” Fito said. “People say I have a great talent with those processes.”
Associates who work in the bakery department have various responsibilities. They make sure product is stocked, displays are organized and the bakery department is well-maintained. Associates must also be available to serve customers, helping them find whatever they need.
Store Manager Eli Gonzalez looks to hire associates who, like Fito, excel both in the production area and on the sales floor.
“He really likes being around people,” Eli said. “We always look for associates like him who value quality customer care.”
Most of all, Fito loves helping his customers.
“I put customers first, making sure we have good quality and quantity of our products,” Fito said. “I like seeing the look on their faces when we’re able to meet their needs.”
Fito says his career goals stretch even further with Publix.
“I want to be a bakery manager someday,” he said. “And learning about the bakery gives me more opportunities to grow with this company.”
