The great thing about Publix is no matter where you start out, you can find the right place for your individual talents. This turned out to be the case for Frozen Food Systems Operator Mike Dostie.
Mike has worked in several roles during his 16-year Publix career, and today he provides training and helps maintain an accurate inventory of frozen foods in the Atlanta distribution center. His understanding of the overall process helped him develop a data analysis tool that has resulted in improved, proactive communication within the warehouse teams.
“I was asked by my manager earlier this year to provide a snapshot of several performance categories that drive inventory,” said Mike. “After brainstorming with my peers and discussing what kind of reporting they needed, I built a tool that could be used in any department.”
The program — which is now automated — creates an overview report that allows the team to see what’s happening to inventory without having to pull data from multiple reports, so they can quickly review the previous week and address potential issues.
Atlanta Refrigerated Warehouse Superintendent Scott McCarron [now manager of transportation operations] saw Mike’s potential in the way he performed his job.
“I asked Mike to take on this project, because I knew he’s one of those associates who digs into things and presents ideas before you ever have to ask him to,” Scott said. “Mike makes the team better with his experience and drive. ”
Mike is happy he can make the job easier for his fellow associates.
“Publix is a great company to work at,” Mike said. “Not many companies offer ownership and vast opportunity like us. I want to do my part in continuing our success.”
And for that, Mike is recognized as our featured distribution associate for the My Publix, My Part program.
