Our Publix truck drivers are vital to ensuring products arrive at our stores safely and on time. Every year, they showcase their skills and industry knowledge by participating in truck driving competitions across various states.
This year’s Georgia Truck Driving Championship was held May 9 – 10 at Lake Lanier Islands. Our truck drivers competed in different vehicle classes, bringing home 1st and 2nd place awards. The championship winners were:
- David Price — 1st place, 5-axle tractor semitrailer.
- Jim Wright — 1st place, straight truck (2023 and 2024 state champion).
- Mike Swengel — 2nd place, flatbed truck.
First-place winners David and Jim will compete at the American Trucking Associations’ National Truck Driving Championships, held Aug. 21 – 24 in Indianapolis.
In addition to the individual awards, our truck drivers received the small team award, which honors a team of 3 – 6 drivers with the highest average score in their size category. Team Publix also received the 1st place fleet safety award, given to fleets with the lowest Department of Transportation crash rate in their fleet class.
Congratulations to all our truck drivers who competed in the Georgia Truck Driving Championship!
