Environmental sustainability is a priority at Publix. Over the years, we’ve received awards for corporate social responsibility and excellence in sustainability, among many others.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has sponsored the GreenChill program since 2007. The program evaluates emission levels and refrigeration systems at grocery stores. Stores meeting EPA predetermined guidelines are presented with silver, gold or platinum level certifications.
Eighteen Publix stores have received the silver-level certification. And thanks to #1411, Conyers, Ga., we’ve received a gold-level certification, too. Several other Publix stores are working toward receiving this certification.
“Incorporating new technology that uses a natural refrigerant for low temperature refrigeration systems helped us meet EPA guidelines,” Refrigeration Program Manager Doug Milu said.
