Some consumers consider hot dogs a summer food

Grilled Hotdogs

Researchers at Mintel surveyed consumers on how often and when they consume hot dogs. About a quarter of respondents said they only eat hot dogs during the summer grilling season. When asked how they prepare hot dogs, 88 percent said grilled and served on a bun. About 12 percent of consumers said they would be more likely to eat them year-round if more recipes were available.

Many respondents advised they would be more likely to consume hot dogs if they were better for you. The most common health concerns mentioned were sodium level, amount of processing involved and lack of nutritional value.
