Rooting for the future

For the 7th year in a row, we’ve worked with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees throughout Florida.

Every year, a portion of sales from Publix-branded reusable bags are donated to plant trees within Publix’s operating area. This year, Publix is continuing its support of the Arbor Day Foundation in the planting of more than 250,000 trees.

Most of the trees have been planted in the following Florida areas with damaged watersheds — the Withlacoochee State Forest, Little Orange Creek Nature Preserve, and Econfina Creek and Chipola River water management areas — which are important resources that affect our water quality.

“Publix is committed to being involved as responsible citizens in our communities, and part of that practice includes protecting our water sources,” said Director of Environmental and Sustainability Programs Michael Hewett. “We’re thrilled to continue our work with the Arbor Day Foundation and look forward to continuing this important work throughout our operating area.”

We speak for the trees
According to the Arbor Day Foundation, planting trees is one of the most cost-effective ways to combat climate change, since trees take carbon dioxide out of our atmosphere and replace it with oxygen. In fact, a large tree can provide a day’s worth of oxygen to 4 people.

And we aren’t done yet. In the future, we plan to continue our work with the Arbor Day Foundation and look forward to continuing to do good together.
