Score one for the environment

From drinks to snacks, our playbook has the perfect strategy for hosting a more sustainable game-night party, so you can spend more time perfecting your victory dance — socially distanced, of course.

Where’s that team spirit?

OK, sporting team gear on the big day is of the utmost importance, and we’ve obviously got you covered. Instead of carrying your goods in a single-use bag, bring one of Publix’s reusable bags, featuring your local NFL team, to shop!

“Fork” and 10

Try making more finger foods to reduce the amount of plasticware used at your party for the big game. Simple ideas include chips and dip or even boneless wings, all of which you can find at Publix and stuff into your reusable NFL team bag. If you just can’t give up that macaroni and cheese, avoid the garbage “sack” and provide your guests with washable dinnerware.

Personal foul on the play … holding plastic bottles

We all know it’s easier to grab plastic bottles, especially when you are shopping the Saturday before the big game — yikes! When making your beverage selection, bring home the “W” by getting aluminum cans. If you must use plastic, go with 2-liter bottles, which can also be recycled, hold more liquid and contribute less waste than individual plastic bottles.

Getting it to the end zone

While creating your trash can lineup, remember to include recycling bins, too. They can be placed next to the trash or near the drink station to make it easier for guests to throw their recyclables to the open receiver (or bin). Now that’s what I call a touchdown!

Take it to the house!

Leftovers to go — another great idea in your playbook. Ask your guests to bring reusable containers if they want to carry some food home with them. Not only does this cut your wallet some slack on baggies, but it also saves you time packing up after the game is over.
