Stuff the turkey — not the trash can

With the holidays right around the corner, learn how you can party sustainably through the season.

Many gatherings result in plates full of food being thrown away. Did you know that nearly 40% of all food in America goes to waste? So you don’t become part of that percentage, we have some tips to help you become part of the solution.

Plan ahead of time.

  • Rinse and cut fresh items and place them in clear storage bins to remember what you have.
  • Check your fridge twice to avoid forgetting groceries.
  • Freeze food you won’t use in time.
  • Don’t go overboard with snacks or appetizers if you are serving a main course.
  • Confirm who will attend your gathering so you know how much food to prepare.

Eat it up!

  • Have produce on its last leg? Consider using it for cooking or a smoothie.
  • Box up leftovers in reusable containers for your guests to take home and enjoy later.
  • Save leftovers to have for lunch the next day.
  • Use recipe sites to find ideas for the items you have left.
  • Still have leftovers? Compost leftovers locally or yourself.
