Publix debuts the latest in store design

0214NewStoreDesign

What do you get when Publix applies state-of-the-art technology, the most efficient department layouts and the latest fresh products in a brand new store design? The answer: #1439, Orlando, Fla.

0214Store#1439From the moment you walk through the front door, you notice this store has unique characteristics. Pops of red, orange, blue and green signs direct customers to follow their taste buds to the variety of convenient food options. But, it’s still Publix.

0214FirstInTheDoor“When it came time to design our newest prototype, the goal was to enhance our former hybrid stores and focus on convenience for our customers,” said Vice President of Fresh Product Development David Bridges. “We’ve elevated our fresh departments and enhanced our high-quality product offerings, but what hasn’t changed is our focus on providing premier customer service.”

Navigating the store

0214Deli

This store is set up with convenience and quick, easy service in mind. The front doors open directly into the deli, which is divided into several smaller areas. To the left, subs are front and center, with traditional service meat and cheese behind it.

0214Deli20214SushiOn the right, the sushi counter is incorporated in the deli area, adjacent to a hot bar with stir fry, bourbon chicken and other Asian favorites. Grab and go selections fill the center of the deli.

0214TheBakeryAs you walk further into the store, the bakery tempts customers with the smell of fresh bread and sweet treats. The specialty cheeses section and event planning area are located beyond the bakery, and an Aprons Cooking School is found in the back corner. A wine specialist is available to help customers find the right wines to complement their meals.

0214Seafood0214Meat_SeafoodMeat and seafood line the back wall — each set up like a traditional market, with items displayed on staggered shelves to show off the variety of steak, chicken, fish and more — and traditional grocery items finish out the center of the store.

Sandwiches, subs and salads — oh, my!

0214DeliAssemblyLineIf you’re looking for speedy service, come to the redesigned sandwich, sub and salad line. The company average time for making a sub is about three and a half minutes; subs made in this line can be ready in about a minute.

0214CustomSub

What’s the secret to this extra speedy service? Customers move along with their order as it’s created so they remain actively engaged in the process, and the assembly line format increases efficiency because all components are within arm’s reach. Another enhancement to this area: the larger case offers a wider variety of ingredients and toppings.

If you’re craving a sub but don’t want the carbs from the bread, you can create a custom sub salad. Just pick up a premade container of lettuce, and an associate can add your favorite toppings.

0214ChickenCordonBleu0214ReubenWith the installation of a TurboChef oven, Publix is introducing new hot sandwich offerings, which are rolling out companywide. In addition to a few new recipes — like the Chicken Cordon Bleu Sub and the Reuben Sandwich — customers can have their traditional sandwich or sub toasted or pressed upon request.

0214BreakfastBurritosEarly risers will appreciate the new line of breakfast sandwiches. Arrive before 10 a.m. to choose from items like a breakfast burrito or sausage, egg and cheese bagel.

0214OEOPublix Deli Online Easy Ordering (OEO) offers a quick and easy way to order your favorite Publix brand and Boar’s Head sliced meats, cheeses, custom subs and wraps. OEO is a natural extension of our service commitment, especially for our on-the-go customers.

Access the Publix Deli Online Easy Ordering website by visiting www.publix.com/order or use an in-store device (select stores only), and follow the on-screen instructions to place your order.

An endless supply of entrees and sides

0214Entrees_Sides

Stop by the entrees and sides area to bring home a restaurant-quality meal — and save yourself the tip! The completely redesigned entrees and sides case features a new lineup of heat-and-serve items, comfort foods, expanded center plate solutions and complementary sides. Instead of carrying the same items throughout the day, selections will rotate based on the time of day. For example, customers may find ready-to-eat sandwiches at lunch and delicious desserts at night.

0214InductionTechnologyThis area also takes advantage of induction technology, which allows entrees and sides to be displayed at a set temperature. Another benefit: the surface stays cool to the touch.

0214FriedChickenHave a craving for fried chicken? This popular deli dinner item is boxed up and ready to go.

Grab and go, and get on with your day

0214GrabGoThe grab and go area is big on bundling. Customers can pick two smaller versions of our popular salads and sandwiches for $5. During lunch hours, an expanded hot self-service section offers traditional favorites, such as potato wedges and popcorn chicken, as well as a new fried chicken sandwich. One thing all stores can look forward to: the new grab and go packaging, which debuted at this store, will soon be available at all stores companywide.

0214CashRegister

Customers are never too far from a cash register, so they can grab their selections and go.

Sit a spell and quench your thirst

0214LiquidSnack0214CafeThe café features Publix brand items, and there’s plenty of space to sit down and enjoy the snack or meal you just purchased. Popular sweets — cupcakes, cookies and dessert cups — are available, as well as new options like pizza by the slice and soft pretzels. For those looking for a liquid snack, try a coffee drink or fresh fruit smoothie. And if you’re screaming for ice cream, grab a handmade milkshake or scoop of ice cream or gelato.

0214ColdDrinkIf you need a cold drink to go with your fresh meal, head over to the beverage center. A Coke Freestyle machine gives you seemingly endless options for customized Coke products. If you’d rather select a Publix drink, beverage chillers offer lemonade and sweet, unsweet and diet tea — all sold by the cup.

0214PharmacyThe store also has a pharmacy with a wide selection of vitamins and supplements to help improve your health and well-being.
