Whether we’re fundraising for March of Dimes, volunteering our time with Habitat for Humanity or donating designated perishable items to local food banks, giving back is an important part of what makes us Publix.

This point of our mission statement needs little explanation because giving back comes naturally for many Publix associates. Mr. George believed being involved as responsible citizens in our communities was an investment, a responsibility and a privilege. He was once asked, “Mr. George, how much do you think you’d be worth today if you hadn’t given so much away?” Without hesitation he responded, “Probably nothing.”

Mr. George’s contribution to the community grew stronger as years passed, and his legacy lives on in all of us. Today, our associates continue to give their time, talent and money back to those in need on Publix Serves Day, throughout the United Way campaign and, really, all year long!
