Associates who’ve been around a while wouldn’t be surprised to hear that making decisions to eliminate or prevent waste has been happening at Publix since Mr. George’s day. Being green is nothing new for us, but we periodically find new ways to talk about it.
Our company has been passionate about finding new ways to reduce waste for a long time —it’s good for us; it’s good for the environment, and it’s good for business. Whether it’s time, opportunity or money, even small changes can make a big difference for everyone involved. By regularly reviewing our processes, we can increase profits — which benefits all of us as stockholders — provide better value for our customers and be responsible citizens for our communities.
More than 40 years ago, Publix launched a program called Wring Out the Waste. It was one of our first efforts toward what we now call the Green Routine. Today, every associate in the company can make a difference in our sustainability efforts. Whether by choosing to recycle instead of tossing something in the trash or by making sure not to waste time, we all have the opportunity to do our part. And all associates are encouraged to share improvement ideas with their manager.
Making improvements is part of our mission statement, and with your help, Publix will continue finding ways to make sustainable changes that we can all be proud of!
