Reduced-fat, low-carb, sugar-free — with all the health and wellness lingo out there, how can you know which products are actually better for you? Publix makes it easy.
In 2013, Publix launched Better Choice shelf tags to point out products that are better choices compared to similar products throughout the store. These tags replaced our previous nutrition tags program.
“Many of our customers regularly look for nutritional information,” said Manager of Customer Wellness Shannon McManus. “The Better Choice program helps educate our customers so they know they’re making the best decisions on which foods are right for them.”
Products that meet the program’s nutritional criteria are designated by a green Better Choice shelf tag. Each Better Choice tag highlights the key nutritional aspects of a food, such as sodium content, amount of saturated fat, carbohydrates and fiber, that make that item a better choice. The Better Choice tags are distinguishable from other shelf tags by their green color and the words, “Better Choice.”
What about those other tags?
While Better Choice products are displayed using green tags, other tags mean different things. Organic products and products with no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors are recognizable by brown-colored shelf tags, and gluten-free items show the GF icon on the shelf tag.
