Publix helps customers make a Better Choice

Nutrition Facts

Publix cares about the health and wellness of our customers. And, we want to make it easy for them to make healthful food choices for their specific dietary needs. That’s why we’re re-launching the Nutrition Facts program with a new name — Better Choice — and new information on the tags. The goal of the program is to point out products that are better choices compared to other products like them throughout the store.

“We know many of our customers regularly look for nutritional information, and the Better Choice program provides that,” said Director of Emerging Business & Private Brands Steve Kintz. “We want our customers to be educated shoppers and know they’re making the best decisions on which foods to purchase.”

Products that meet the program’s nutritional criteria will receive the green Better Choice shelf tag. Each Better Choice tag highlights the key nutritional aspects of a food, such as sodium content, amount of saturated fat, carbohydrates and fiber, that make that item a better choice.

Organic products and products with no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors are recognizable by the brown colored shelf tag, and gluten-free items will still show the GF icon on the shelf tag. The new tags are distinguishable from other shelf tags by their green color and the words, “Better Choice.”

The rollout will be completed this month.

The Better Choice label:

  • Describes the benefit of the program
  • Lists the key nutrients evaluated
  • Shows the serving size of the product
  • Shows the product’s calories per serving
  • Shows the actual values of the product per serving that make this a better choice compared to other products like it
