Bob began his Publix career in 1988 as a front service clerk. He was promoted to assistant store manager in 1996 and became one of our first grocery retail improvement specialists in 2000. He was promoted to store manager in 2001, district manager in 2005 and director of merchandising in 2010. He was promoted to his current position in 2013, where he supports the deli and meat & seafood retail coordinators and retail improvement specialists.

Tarpon Springs, Florida
What brought you to Publix?
I was 17 and a senior in high school. I had just bought my first car, so I needed gas and insurance money. I applied, was hired on the spot and never left.
What are your goals for your position?
I want to equip the people I serve with the best tools possible so they can better serve their customers. Whatever we provide should be easy for our stores to master. We want to do our best to vet all the issues so when stores get the tool, it’s easy for associates to see how it will help them serve their customers.
What’s your favorite Publix memory?
Meeting Mr. George. It was in November 1993 at the grand opening of #457, Spring Hill, Florida. I had the opportunity to talk to him and have my picture taken with him. It’s a great memory.
What’s your proudest moment?
Becoming a store manager. It was my first long-term goal as a young manager. I wanted to have my own store and serve my associates and community.
What are your hobbies?
Anything outdoors; mainly hunting and fishing

What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
As large as we’ve become, our company still feels small. I always feel welcome going into any store from Key West, Florida to Rome, Georgia.
What has changed most about Publix since you started here?
The great investment we make in technology. It helps us stay in touch with our associates and better serve our customers.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Training; it’s the essence of retail support. I love providing training that will help our stores be successful.
