Curt Epperson began his Publix career in 1984 as a part-time front service clerk in Titusville, Florida. He transferred to the produce department in 1985, was promoted to assistant produce manager in 1988 and to produce manager in 1994. He supported our produce business in a variety of retail and support roles before being promoted to his current position in 2017.

What did you want to be when you were little?
I grew up riding dirt bikes, so I was convinced I was going to be the next motocross superstar.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
It’s exciting working in a department that’s constantly changing. Whether it’s a change in season, a change in buying habits or a change to the type of products being offered, produce is always evolving.
What do you enjoy most about working at Publix?
The people. I love knowing we take pride in being company owners and are committed to one purpose: serving our customers!
What’s your favorite Publix memory?
There’s not just one. Being mentored over the years by such a talented group of individuals has created so many great memories and friendships. I enjoy paying it forward and watching others grow and succeed.
What’s your work philosophy?
My parents taught me four simple rules: show up, work hard, do the right thing and treat people as you expect to be treated.
What are your hobbies?
Enjoying the outdoors — biking, boating and hiking — and hanging out with my family.

What brought you to Publix?
I started bagging groceries when I was 16 and never looked back.
What has changed about Publix since you started?
When I started, we had 272 stores and a much smaller offering of fresh produce and floral. Today, we have nearly 1,200 stores and lead the industry in fresh produce and floral varieties.
What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
Our company philosophy and ownership, and our desire to serve our customers and take care of our associates
What music are you listening to right now?
It hasn’t changed much over the years — still listening to the 80s.
