David Finger — Director of Omni-Channel

David Finger

David joined Publix in 1993 as a part-time front service clerk at #440, Mt. Dora, Florida, and in 1999, he was promoted to customer service manager. He transferred to the corporate office in 2000 as a supplier information analyst for facilities purchasing. In 2001, he moved to the customer service retail business unit as a technical specialist and was promoted to technical coordinator in 2004. In 2015, he was promoted to director of retail scheduling and forecasting before moving into his current role in April.

What did you want to be when you were little?
An architect. I missed that one by quite a bit! But as customer service technical coordinator, I was involved in store design, so I guess you could say I did a little of it.

What brought you to Publix?
I started working part time when I was 16 years old and never left.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
It’s exciting to be part of the team implementing Publix Delivery and growing our omni-channel business. I’ve learned a tremendous amount in just the past few months.

What’s changed the most about Publix since you started?
How much we’ve grown and the tools we have to help us understand our business better than ever before. Our technology systems are now part of our everyday business, and that gives us better insight into where we can improve.

What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
Our values. Our commitment to providing premier customer service and doing the right thing hasn’t changed.

When my wife and I adopted our son

What do you enjoy most about working at Publix?
We’re a company with strong values, so I’m proud to say I work here because the company is held in such high regard.

I met my wife while we were both working on a project here, so that was a good gift from Publix.

What’s your work or life philosophy?
Be honest, and do the right thing.

The West Wing

What’s your favorite sports team?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What music are you listening to right now?
Country — that’s been a recent change.

What are your hobbies?
Running and reading. I did my first marathon last year, but I’m taking a small break right now. I’m planning to do a half marathon next year.
