David began working at Publix in 2002 as a pharmacy manager. In 2004, he was promoted to the role of pharmacy supervisor, then pharmacy operations manager in 2008 and in 2013, to director of pharmacy administration. In 2017, David’s position evolved into his current role, where he works with local health systems to identify and provide innovative services for their patients and Publix customers.
What brought you to Publix?
I was looking for a change after graduating from pharmacy school. Publix’s culture of valuing its associates and providing premier service seemed to align with my own, so I took a chance and applied for a job.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Collaborating with other health care entities to find creative, new and exciting ways to advance the health care services we provide. For example, the new telehealth initiative with BayCare is an innovative new service that allows patients to seek medical care in our stores.
What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
The commitment to being the best at what we do, and the sense of pride in our brand and what it represents
What’s your favorite movie?
It’s hard to pick one! I watch a lot of foreign films.
What’s your work or life philosophy?
To stay grounded and never let the moment dictate your long-term goals or direction. It’s easy to get excited or upset in the moment. I try to keep an even keel and focus on my goals.

Where were you born?
Atlanta, but I grew up in the small town of Covington, Georgia.
What did you want to be when you were little?
A drummer
What has changed about Publix since you started?
Within my department, the role of a pharmacist is vastly different from when I started. I was dispensing medications and hoping I might one day be able to give a flu shot. Now, pharmacists provide a whole array of clinical services.

What’s your proudest moment?
Most recently, I am proud of the work we did to create our collaboration with BayCare. We are bringing together two organizations to improve access to high-quality healthcare within BayCare hospitals and Publix stores. It’s always exciting to do something for the first time!
What’s your favorite book?
I have so many favorites, but a couple of my favorite authors are Don DeLillo and Haruki Murakami.
What’s your favorite sports team?
I don’t really watch sports, but I do follow University of Georgia football.
