Jeff Stephens — Vice President of Manufacturing

Jeff Stephens

Jeff began his Publix career in 1980 as a rail dock associate. He was promoted to lab technician in the dairy plant in 1983, quality control manager in 1988, general manager of the dairy plant in 2000 and director of fresh product manufacturing in 2005. In 2010, Jeff was promoted to director of manufacturing operations, and in April, he was promoted to his current position.

Where were you born?
I was born in New Castle, Ind., and raised in Lakeland, Fla.

What did you want to be when you were little?
A dentist

What are your hobbies?
Swimming, biking and running. I enjoy participating in triathlons and marathons.

What’s your favorite Publix product?
Both our chocolate and vanilla Publix Premium Organic Ice Cream

What’s the most exciting part of your job?
I love the manufacturing process — bringing raw materials together to produce wonderful products. I also love working with Publix people.

What has not changed about Publix since you started here?
We haven’t changed what we stand for — integrity, honesty, quality and taking care of people. We do it right, we don’t take any shortcuts, and we are very well-respected. You can feel proud to tell people you work at Publix.

What’s your proudest moment?
Walking my oldest daughter down the aisle at her wedding. I was so proud, I thought my buttons were going to pop!

What’s your work or life philosophy?
Leave things better than you found them. I always look for ways I can make something a little bit better than it was before.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Managing all the details that come with running a large manufacturing operation. It’s a huge business, and it’s a big task to keep it running smoothly.
