Maria Butters, Director of Facility Services

Maria began her Publix career in 2010 as the supervisor of the facility services contact center. She held various roles within facility services before her promotion in 2016 to senior manager of facility services strategic operations. She was promoted to her current role in 2017.

Where were you born?
Lakeland, Florida

What did you want to be when you were little?
A lawyer

What do you enjoy most about working at Publix?
Stability — we know Publix is going to be here every day when we come to work. We also have leaders who have developed a great culture, and it’s a lot easier to work when you have a strong foundation.

What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started at Publix?
Our culture. We all bleed green.

What’s your work philosophy?
I’m a big fan of Bear Bryant, the longtime University of Alabama coach, who said, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” My philosophy has morphed into doing the work until you’re proud of the results.

What’s your favorite Publix product?
Our banana pudding ice cream — it’s changed my life!

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Watching Game of Thrones or playing chess with my husband

What brought you to Publix?
I was working at another company, and my department was being phased out. I had some experience with call centers and reviewing facilities, so I applied to Publix and was hired.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Leading people, investing in my team and seeing them grow. I learn something new from them every day.

What has changed about Publix since you started?
The growth! Since I’ve been here, we’ve opened stores in two new states.

How do you spend your spare time?
Spending time with my kids — we’re big Disney fans. I’m also an avid reader and marksman.

Braveheart

The University of Alabama Crimson Tide
