Scott Brubaker - Jacksonville Divisional Vice President stands in the deli area of the store

Scott started his Publix career in 1975 as a front service clerk in Melbourne, Florida. He worked in various positions before becoming a store manager in 1989. He was promoted to district manager in 1994 and to regional director in 1996. In 2005, he was promoted to his current role. Scott oversees retail operations in the Jacksonville Division.

What did you want to be when you were younger?
I always wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and be a fireman, but as I got older, I was interested in being a lawyer.

What do you think makes Publix a great place to work?
It’s the people — from our leadership teams to the associates who work beside us every day. Being part of the Publix family is really special. We share our dreams, goals, wins and even our losses with each other.

What’s your favorite Publix product?
We have so many great items, so it changes regularly. But currently, Publix Deli Sweetened Tea is always in our refrigerator.

What’s your favorite movie?
No one is going to believe this, but it’s Hallmark movies. My wife, Lisa loves them, and she loves when we watch them together. She puts up with my strange hours, so it’s the least I can do for her!

What’s your work philosophy?
I believe in giving your all every day. When you can step back with a sense of accomplishment and be proud of the job you’ve done, you know it’s been a good day!

What’s one thing on your bucket list?
Traveling across the U.S. with my wife.

What’s your proudest moment?
My proudest moments at work are when I see folks I worked with be promoted and hoping I had a little influence on them. My proudest moment at home is becoming a grandpa — twice!

What do you like to do in your free time?
First and foremost, I love spending time with my granddaughters. After that, it’s spending time with my wife (but don’t tell her she is second).

What’s your advice to someone just starting their Publix career?
Publix really is a great place to work. Whatever you want from Publix and your career can be yours; it just depends on you and how much you’re willing to give.

What is the best career advice you received?
Just be yourself and don’t try to be someone else. Your personality and previous experiences provide a unique perspective that makes you so important to Publix.

Where’s your favorite place to vacation?
Alaska

The face that looks a little crazy. I think you should have fun no matter what you’re doing!

What are you binge-watching right now?
Game of Thrones. I have been traveling a lot and need to catch up!

What is the farthest place you’ve traveled?
Italy
