Photography Guidelines

Please review the following guidelines for photos you take and submit for publication.

Do

  • Photograph associates volunteering and participating in local events that support our community involvement areas of focus (youth, education, hunger and homeless).
  • Be mindful of the volunteer location, and seek permission from the organization’s leadership prior to taking pictures at an organization. Photos may not be appropriate at a women’s shelter or activities involving children.
  • Take photos in front of signage to show where associates are volunteering.
  • Shoot candid, non-posed action shots that include a variety of people.
  • Fill the frame with your subject, and focus the image as much as possible.
  • Use a flash if you shoot indoors.
  • Photograph the associate enjoying his or her work. If the associate looks into the camera, he or she should pause from working.

Do not

  • Take photos and/or videos of associates in the store.
  • Shoot posed photos of people standing or shaking hands with someone as they look into the camera (grip-and-grin photos).
  • Show the sun in the photo. Make sure the sun is behind the photographer.
