Mr. George believed in giving his time, talents and treasures to his community, and he encouraged associates to do the same.
A humble man, he never sought recognition or the spotlight for himself. He wanted to showcase the good that could be achieved through community service. Being involved in the communities we serve was one of the philosophies on which he founded our company. As we celebrate our 95th anniversary this year, it remains a key part of our mission.
In the mid-1930s, Mr. George began volunteering at the Rotary Club of Winter Haven, an organization dedicated to helping others. He served as club president from 1939 to 1940, but as Publix expanded, he moved to Lakeland, Florida, and joined the Lakeland Rotary Club in 1943.
Throughout his life, he supported many organizations, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs and Special Olympics.
For 95 years, his legacy of service has inspired us. Today, our associates continue this spirit of giving by being involved in their communities.
Let’s continue Mr. George’s legacy of service by doing good, together.
