Helping alleviate hunger

According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), 1 in 8 people across the U.S. struggles with hunger, including more than 9 million people in Publix’s operating area.

So last month, Publix Super Markets Charities announced a $5 million donation to Feeding America member food banks, schools and other nonprofit organizations across the Southeast. The donation will support pantries and meal programs in the communities surrounding Publix stores and brings Publix Charities’ total contribution to hunger relief organizations to more than $22 million over the last five years.

On Aug. 28, representatives from Publix Charities, along with CEO Todd Jones, President Kevin Murphy and Executive Vice President & CFO David Phillips, presented donations to 18 Feeding America member food banks and partner agencies throughout our seven-state operating area, as Publix associates volunteered to raise awareness of this important issue.

“Millions of people in the Southeast — many of them children and seniors — may not know where they will find their next meal. Together, we can help change that,” said Executive Director of Publix Super Markets Charities Kelly Williams-Puccio. “We are proud to continue our commitment to feeding communities across the Southeast and offer dignity and nourishment to our neighbors in need.”

In related efforts, from Sept. 11 – 22, Publix will hold its Food for Sharing campaign. During this time, customers and associates can select a food recipe donation card at checkout and add it to their total purchase. The product will then be delivered to participating food banks.
