Helping provide hope for our neighbors in need

Hunger Action Month, Feeding America’s initiative to help alleviate hunger in our communities, kicks off every September. Our hunger alleviation efforts extend beyond the month and include year-round programs to help feed our neighbors in need.

Mobile food pantries

A number of the 22 mobile food pantries Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) funded in 2022 are hitting the road, bringing Publix-provided produce and other nutritious food to communities facing food insecurity throughout the Southeast. The Feeding America® partner food banks received $175,000 each from PSMC to purchase and equip their mobile units. The mobile pantries allow neighbors in need to select what they need.

PSMC’s 2023 donation

PSMC is donating a total of $10 million in 2023 to help alleviate hunger. In September, the foundation announced it’s giving $6 million to 36 Feeding America partner food banks and more than 300 other nonprofit organizations. These funds will help support organizations providing services like weekend backpack programs, food pantries and meal delivery programs. This donation is in addition to the $4 million grant opportunity announced earlier this year to help select food banks in our operating area fund nonrecurring capacity-building projects. The 2023 donation brings the foundation’s total investment in helping alleviate hunger to over $52 million since 2015.

Publix Serves Week

From Sept. 17 to 23, we volunteered and helped our neighbors facing food insecurity. More than 7,500 associates across our 7-state operating area donated their time at over 150 nonprofit organizations. We helped distribute food at some of the 22 new mobile food pantries funded by PSMC, created meal kits, assembled snack packs for children, made soup kits for seniors and more. See how we worked to do good, together.
